Cameras can only capture 12-14 stops (factors of 2) of brightness (outside that range you get white at the bright end and black at the dark). "High Dynamic Range" is referring to enabling you to see more of the brightness range in the original scene. I have a train to catch so this will be a quick update to my last comment on HDR Projects. Finally note that this is one of the larger Franzis apps - HDR projects 7 weighs in at 437MB, mainly because of the included textures. In a couple of image editing apps I've also had to make sure the plugins were in the program's folder, then add a shortcut to those plugins in the proper folder for the image editor - adding the plugins themselves to that folder for some reason did not work. I've found that the setup routine does not always install the plugins where you want / need them, so you may have to copy them manually. I normally install their apps in a VM, just copying the program's folder to Windows to avoid the included runtime files. OTOH most people I think have several copies of those runtimes already, so additional copies just adds to the bloat in Windows\ WinSxS\. One caveat is that it's difficult to see the full range of color in an HDR image - P/Shop can display an HDR image in HDR, but unless you have a Really Expensive monitor, turning on HDR turns off calibration, so while you might see more colors, they might not be the correct ones.įranzis software usually installs a copy of the Microsoft C/C runtimes, and with older versions, that's usually an older version of those runtimes, so it doesn't hurt to check for updates. Mapping the greater number of colors in the HDR image to the standard photo version is one of HDR projects claims to fame. Software then combines the data from each one into a single large file that you can then edit to get the best balance, after which you convert it to a normal image file, discarding that extra data. For an HDR photo you take 3 or more duplicate shots, one exposed for the shadows, one for the highlights,
